Screen Layout & Navigation Basics

Description

Hermes has been designed to be simple and intuitive to use. The majority of screens within the system meet a similar format to ensure a clear and consistent user experience.

Certain elements, such as the 'Identity Bar' across the top of the screen and the 'Navigation Menu' on the left of the screen are available on almost every screen to allow quick navigation throughout the system.




Common Elements

Identity Bar

The 'Identity Bar' lives across the top of the screen, with the majority of items within it in the very top-right of the screen. 

Lodge/Chapter Number: This identifies which Lodge or Chapter is currently being accessed. This is particularly helpful for those who administrate multiple units. 

First Name: This identifies who the system believes is the current Hermes User for this Lodge/Chapter. You should therefore see your own name. If you do not, there may be an issue and you should raise a 'Support Request' with your relevant 'Regional Office'. By clicking on your name, you will see the 'Log Out' button.

Messages: This shows how many 'Unread' 'Messages' you currently have. These 'Messages' are those that have been automatically sent by Hermes and likely require your attention. You can click it to access the 'Messages' window where you can read and update 'Messages' you have received.

Help Guide: This is a button that will open the 'Help Guide' on the page related to the screen you are currently accessing. For example, if you click 'Help Guide' while on the 'Current Members' Screen, you will be taken to the 'Current Members' Screen page of the 'Help Guide'.

Raise Support Request: This is a button that will open the 'Raise Support Request' window. On this window you can enter a short description of the issue and then provide further information such as what you were trying to do, the Member you were trying to amend etc. The 'Support System' also automatically captures additional information such as Session ID and Page Number which will assist in technical resolutions, but this is not visible to you. Please provide as much detail as possible when raising Support Requests to assist the Support Analyst and ensure an efficient resolution.


Navigation Menu

The 'Navigation Menu' is on the left of most screens and allows quick navigation to other Hermes Screens. Sections can be expanded by clicking the down arrow on the relevant section name. The menu can be collapsed or expanded using the icon at the top of the 'Navigation Menu'.


Breadcrumbs

Many screens will have 'Breadcrumbs' at the top, below the 'Identity Bar'. These identify the current screen and the screens accessed to reach it, ensuring you always know where you are and what previous screens were. You can click on the name of a screen to navigate back to it.


Options Available

Logging Out: By clicking on your name in the 'Identity Bar' you can access the 'Log Out' button. Please be sure to 'Log Out' at the end of your session, or if you are leaving your machine unattended.
